~ Mary Poppins
Over 20 years ago I became a stay at home mom. Man, I love this job! (Present tense because you never stop being a mom, right?) It was crazy and challenging, loving and stressful, and full of joy. I really enjoyed being the manager of our lives. However, as time passed, I had this feeling that I was supposed to be doing something more. The kids were older, the household was (sort of) running like a machine, and I wondered, "What else do I have to offer? Who am I? Is this all there is to my life?" So, in addition to classroom mom, birthday party extraordinaire, and kid taxi service, I decided to attend grad school to earn a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology. This truly put my management skills to the test - wearing all of those different hats! This journey fed my soul and opened my mind in ways I'd never imagined. I learned so much about myself, the human experience, and how I could best help people through challenging times. I became a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and opened a private practice.
Over the years, I refined my skills and gravitated toward Solution Focused Brief Therapy, which emphasizes present and future goals rather than past challenges - much like coaching. This resonated deeply with my belief in life's possibilities and positivity. I found myself energized by clients who set and achieved goals, transforming their lives, and I wanted to be more intentional about supporting these transitions. So began the journey of becoming a Board Certified Coach. This certification allows me to blend my counseling expertise with coaching techniques, helping clients clarify their vision, focus on what truly matters, and set meaningful goals and actionable solutions.
My counseling background helps me guide women through the mental roadblocks that get in the way of real change. I am passionate about helping others navigate life's transitions and understanding the different stages we all go through. I've worked with teens to manage the stress of figuring out their future, young adults to find their path, and moms at every stage - from trying to decide if they want kids to adjusting to life after the kids leave home, and every stage in between. Through support, encouragement, and accountability, I help them focus on what matters to them and create a life that feels meaningful and true to who they are. That is the power of coaching! ~Shannon
When I'm not coaching I enjoy being in nature, spending time with my family, and reading anything in print. I hold a BA in Psychology and an MA in Counseling Psychology. I am a LMHC in the State of Washington, a Board Certified Coach, and a Certified Mindset Coach through the Life Coach School.
